If you grant me the honor of an initial session, one of the first things that we will each do is share a little about our backgrounds in order to get a broader context for who we are. We are tremendously more than our issues. Then, if you feel like it is a good fit to work together we will set you up with our recommendations for what will be a good therapy plan for your particular needs.
Let me introduce myself, my background, and my frame of reference for doing therapy.
Born to a hard working couple, I grew up in a small town in Virginia. I lost my dad at 12, entered a turbulent adolescence, came to faith in Christ at 19, entered the ministry, met and married my wife of 42 years, planted and lost a church in a large metropolitan area, spent 1 year separated from my wife and children, found healing and recovery after a long and frustrating journey, but one that finally led to successful recovery. I was then led to pursue an education in marriage and family therapy.
I have the privilege and pleasure to work with a diverse clientele in the areas of individual, couples, and group therapy. I am a passionate believer in "attachment theory". This guides my work with all of my clients. Simply, it is about how we bond with one another, how we love and connect on a deeper level. It is how our Creator has hardwired us for relationship. This is the foundation for the secure and safe atmosphere I seek to facilitate. I also work with clients from a Judeo-Christian worldview that is permeated with grace and unconditional acceptance. Are you ready to take the first step to lasting healing? Let's journey, shall we?
